Two 16-Year-Olds Charged With Shooting That Ended Up With a Leg Amputation

Shooting a High School Basketball Player

On September 23, a Benson High School student was robbed and shot by two armed teenagers. The attackers shot the 17-year-old basketball player from Omaha twice, and a bullet went from the lower part of his lung to his leg. To save his life, doctors had to put Henderson into a medically-induced coma. The high schooler needed to have a leg amputated, and his organs in the abdominal region went through several repairs.

One of the assailants is facing charges for first-degree assault, while the authorities suspect the other of robbery. The attacker who carried the gun is also looking at charges of unlawful use of a weapon. The victim’s mother, however, claims that there is one more culprit involved in the assault and that he remains on the loose.

Just a day before the attack, Henderson received a full-ride basketball scholarship at Judson University in Illinois.

The boy’s family family has made a GoFundMe page hoping to raise money for the teenager’s therapy and a prosthetic leg. Their current goal is $15,000.
